Tip Of The Month
* Never touch the bow hair with your fingers. The oils from your skin will cause the rosin not to adhere to the hair. Always hold a bow by the frog not the tip or hair.
* A new bow will need plenty of rosin on it. If you are using a new cake of rosin, then you must lightly scratch the surface to get it started. (Don't dig into the rosin. You don't want uneven gouges in it.)
Now with the hair of the bow tightened, rub the bow hair evenly across the rosin many times. Our luthier has told us that you will know your bow has enough rosin when you can lightly tap the "stick" part of the bow on your extended finger and see "dust" fly.
* Always loosen the bow hair when you are done playing. This prevents the bow from warping, and unnecessary stretching of the hair. You should also wipe the rosin dust from the stick and violin with a soft cotton cloth.
* Never try to repair a bow yourself. Take it to a repairman or luthier. When the hair does not tighten evenly, it's time to get it rehaired. If you have a student bow, (they usually come with student violins) it may be more cost effective to just buy another student bow. Check first to see if this is the way to go for you unless you have a more expensive higher quality bow.
**** We have a new bow in stock that can be re-haired easily by the you the user, it also comes in colors |
